Professional development for lawyers and advisors

PilchConnect is committed to developing the expertise of lawyers and other advisors working with the not-for-profit community sector.

We hold a series of events each year aimed at improving the awareness and understanding of the legal and regulatory issues facing the community sector.  We also run a Masters subject at the University of Melbourne.

We have recently produced a number of PILCHcasts that discuss the changes introduced by the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (Vic)

PILCHcasts - audio legal updates for lawyers

We have produced a series of 'PILCHcasts' to assist lawyers who advise not-for-profit organisations or with interest in legal issues for the sector.

They can be listened to individually (10 - 20 mins), or taken together equate to 1 CPD point if the content is relevant to your legal professional development and practice of the law.

Click here for our PILCHcasts. Our first series looks at the new Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (Vic).

LLM subject: Regulatory and governance issues for not-for-profits (Melbourne University)

PilchConnect lawyers helped establish and now teach a subject in the Law Masters Program at the University of Melbourne. The subject Not-for-Profit Organisations: Current Regulatory and Governance Issues (LAWS70191) is open to both lawyers and non-lawyers, and covers issues such as:

  • the diversity of the sector;
  • the choice of legal structure and taxation issues; and
  • an overview of regulatory issues and potential for reform.

The subject was run in 2008 and 2010. It will possibly be run again as an intensive subject in 2013.
