A conversation with Susan Pascoe & David Locke - November 2011

On 11 November 2011, PilchConnect presented a breakfast lecture featuring Susan Pascoe, the Interim Commissioner of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) Implementation Taskforce, and David Locke, Chief Adviser to the ACNC Implementation Taskforce (on secondment from the Charity Commission of England and Wales).

The breakfast event was generously hosted by Freehills and attended by lawyers from PILCH member firms and select representatives from the not-for-profit (NFP) sector. Sue Woodward, Director of PilchConnect, facilitated the conversation.

The conversation is available as a podcast below, in three parts.

Part 1 - the role of the ACNC

In this part, Susan Pascoe and David Locke reflect on their roles and experiences to date, and discuss how the ACNC will be different to the Australian Taxation Office.

Part 2 - culture and services of the ACNC

In this part, Susan Pascoe and David Locke discuss proposed recruitment and location of ACNC staff, how the ACNC will communicate with the NFP sector, and what the practical effects of the new regulator will be, especially for small charities.

Part 3 - What the NFP sector can expect

In this part, Susan Pascoe and David Locke discuss the ACNC's information webportal, proposed reporting requirements for registered charities, state/territory relationships, future scope of regulation (not-for-profits as well as charities), and how can lawyers working with NFPs can help.
