Register for the Law Institute of Victoria Legal Assistance Scheme (LIVLAS)
What pro bono work can you do with LIVLAS?
You can register with LIVLAS as an individual practitioner or as a law firm. LIVLAS offers facilitated meritorious pro bono referrals in diverse areas of law for members of the community who do not have sufficient funds to retain a solicitor or obtain appropriate legal assistance from government funded bodies or community based organisations and co-ordinates cross-referrals through the Victorian Bar Pro Bono Scheme. LIVLAS welcomes registration by practitioners in any area of law.
What are the benefits of registering for LIVLAS?
While many practitioners already engage in pro bono work on an ad hoc basis, participating through LIVLAS allows PILCH and the Law Institute of Victoria to formally record and acknowledge your contribution to pro bono, and assess the areas in which there continues to be an unmet legal need.
LIVLAS assists solicitors by providing a dedicated assessment and referral service to make pro bono services more accessible for the public.
Lawyers accepting LIVLAS referrals address social inclusion, improve access to justice, protect human rights and further the public interest by providing pro bono assistance on an individual basis. LIVLAS is able to take a considered approach in dealing with systemic issues through its casework referrals to member firms. By participating in LIVLAS referrals, firms inform our policy objectives and participate in social change.
