Volunteers - Protections and Liabilities

Oops! A volunteer gets hurt. Oops! A volunteer harms someone else.
What is your group's responsibility for injuries to, and acts of, volunteers?

Volunteers are an integral part of community organisations, but do you know what the legal position is if they are injured? What happens if their actions hurt someone else (say, a client or a member of the public)? Unlike employees, volunteers are not cover by workers compensation so there are different legal rules to understand.

This seminar will provide information about your organisation's legal responsibilities for, and obligations to, volunteers. You will learn what your organisation might be liable for and also what can be done to minimise the risks.

This seminar is presented by:

Rebecca Dean and Michelle Hocking (Lawyers, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Clayton Utz)

Rebecca Dean and Michelle Hocking specialise in insurance law and related disputes. Their insurance law experience includes advising both insurers and insureds in the areas of insurance, reinsurance, alternative dispute resolution and commercial litigation. They regularly work within the Magistrates, County, Supreme and Federal jurisdictions.  Both Rebecca and Michelle have volunteered at Community Legal Centre's and through Clayton Utz with PILCH's Homeless Persons' Legal Clinic.
