Legal Duties of Board and Committee Members
This 'back to basics' training covers the role and legal duties of people who sit on the Committee of Management or Board of a Victorian not-for-profit community organisations (NFP).
Suitable for people who currently sit on the Board or Committee, as well as, people who are thinking of joining a Board or Committee. Appropriate also for managers or senior employees of a NFP, who may be covered by the legal duties themselves or need to advise Board or Committee members of their legal responsibilities of NFPs of all sizes, and for all incorporated legal structures as well as unincorporated community groups.
Session covers:
- Role of Committee or Board members and others who ‘govern' or ‘make decisions for' the organisation
- Four main legal responsibilities of Committee or Board members
- Potential liabilities of Committee or Board members, and what legal defences and protections are available
- Simple actions Committee or Board members can take to ensure they comply with the law and protect themselves from liability.
