The Team

PILCH office

You will be working within a highly motivated team of lawyers committed to social justice through legal practice that has at its core the assessment of inquiries and the facilitation of pro bono legal referrals to our member firms and barristers. Our lawyers come from diverse practice backgrounds including corporate firms, Victoria Legal Aid, government and community legal centres.

Secondees are an integral part of the Referral Services Team. Secondees support and learn from each other as well as from staff, with all their work being supervised by a senior PILCH lawyer.

Secondees attend fortnightly casework meetings with the Referral Services team during which they share with their colleagues recent challenges and rewards arising from their referral casework, levels of pro bono capacity amongst firms and barristers, inquiry trends and updates on changes in the legal sector affecting our work. The Referral Services team also meets momthly to discuss strategic objectives.

Secondees are mentored by the manager of Pro Bono Relationships who is responsible for structuring the secondee's work program and reporting back to the host firm.

Secondees are encouraged to be proactive about seeking work and looking for ways to add value to their casework, for example by drafting case studies, contributing to PILCH publications, monitoring the media and considering how their casework interacts with PILCH's campaign objectives.
