Charitable fundraising reform

This page provides information on proposed national reform of charitable fundraising regulation. This is part of the Federal Government's not-for-profit sector reform package (explained here).

The Government is considering a new national framework for charitable fundraising, aimed at removing current inconsistencies between the various state and territory frameworks and addressing other concerns (for example, the regulation of electronic and online fundraising).

The Government is at the 'consultation' stage, and a national framework will require state and territory governments to agree on a consistent approach - so it is not expected this reform will start soon.

It is possible that the framework may require charitable organisations who are raising significant funds from the public to register with the ACNC, meet minimum disclosure requirements, and comply with other laws that relate to fundraising activities (for example, under the Australian Consumer Law).
