Contractors and consultants
What is the definition of a 'contractor'?
PilchConnect has developed a Guide to help Victorian not-for-profit organisations understand different kinds of working relationships - including that of 'independent contractor'. It is important for your community organisation to know when this relationship arises, because different legal entitlements and obligations apply, depending on whether your worker is regarded as an 'independent contractor', an 'employee', or a 'volunteer'.
The Guide outlines:
-
the importance of correctly classifying different working relationships;
-
the basic legal differences between employees, independent contractors and volunteers; and
-
an overview of some of the main legal obligations an organisation owes to its employees, independent contractors and volunteers.
