NEW FACULTY ALERT: We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Jessica Hsu as a new faculty member in the Section of Plastic Surgery! Dr. Hsu is originally from the state of Washington. She completed her dual-degree training at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington and then went on to complete her residency in Plastic Surgery at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Hsu’s clinical focus is on breast reconstructio...n, gender-affirming top surgery, as well as general reconstructive surgery. Her research emphasis is on the delivery of information to patients and patient-reported outcomes following breast surgery. Dr. Hsu is excited to continue her mentorship of medical students and residents at Michigan Medicine and has specific interest in improving surgical education and increasing cultural and cognitive diversity in surgery. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Hsu enjoys running, playing tennis, and trying new restaurants in Detroit. She currently lives in Ann Arbor with her husband who is an orthopedic surgeon at Michigan Medicine and her beloved fur-baby, Reuben. NEW FACULTY ALERT: We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Paige Myers as a new faculty member in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery! Dr. Myers is originally from Upstate New York. She completed her residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Rochester before heading over to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for a fellowship in Microsurgery. Dr. Myers can’t wait to get to U of M where her practice will focus on breast reconstruction and general recons...tructive microsurgery. She will also be active in research, focusing on clinical and patient-reported outcomes in breast reconstruction as well as health care delivery. Dr. Myers is also passionate about mentorship, with a particular interest in women in surgery. When she’s not in the hospital, Dr. Myers enjoys running, yoga, and spending time with her family. She will be moving to Ann Arbor with her husband, who will be joining the faculty as a Cardiac Anesthesiologist. Dr. Kevin Chung Receives 2020 ACS Sheen Award Kevin C. Chung, MD, MS, the Charles B. G. De Nancrede Professor of Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, will receive the 2020 Dr. Rodman E. Sheen and Thomas G. Sheen Award, which has been presented annually since 1968 to honor outstanding contributions to the medical profession. The Sheen Award honors a full-time working physician involved in ongoing and promising teac...hing and medical research. Philanthropist Thomas G. Sheen, of Atlantic City, NJ, created a perpetual trust to further the study of medicine and to compensate an outstanding Doctor of Medicine Science in the United States each year. Dr. Chung, the chief of hand surgery for Michigan Medicine and director of its Comprehensive Hand Center, is a world-renowned hand surgeon and researcher who has been involved in leading academic research for much of his career. He has published more than 640 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 350 book chapters, and 27 textbooks. He is editor-in-chief of Grabb and Smith’s Plastic Surgery, 8th Edition, the standard textbook for the specialty. He has more than 20 years of continuous National Institutes of Health funding, serving as principal or co-principal investigator on numerous clinical hand studies. Additionally, Dr. Chung is serving as 2020 president of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the largest hand surgery organization in the world, with a membership of more than 4,000 from the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Chung was the first recipient of the Andrew J. Weiland Medal from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand to honor a hand surgeon whose research work advanced the specialty. He was the 2011 Researcher of the Year for the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. In 2008, he received the Dean's Award from the U-M Medical School for Clinical and Health Services Research that is bestowed on one faculty member for outstanding research accomplishments. Dr. Chung will receive the award and be featured speaker at the ACS New Jersey Chapter annual meeting in April 2021. We could not be more proud of Dr. Chung for receiving this prestigious award!
