The Sanger Area Historical Society Museum is still closed due to COVID. As we enter into 2021, and with the vaccines now being made available, perhaps we will be in position to open in the next few months. A notice will be posted when we prepare to open for the public again.
REMEMBERING A HERO, STEPHEN RORY BAKER The following article is about a young man and his tragic death that brought together the Sanger community and many individuals for years. Sanger grieved, was brought together, and inspired by what happened on that August day in 1964. As you read this story, set your heart and mind to that day. A beautiful sunny day with school set to begin the following week. Try to grasp the feelings, the mood, the dedication, and the affect it had...Continue reading
Through efforts of the Sanger Area Historical Society, Chet Switzer, and Tona Batis an article was published in the "Sanger News" about the death of a young man who died playing football for Sanger in 1964. Stephen Baker was a well-loved, great athlete and dedicated young man who had suffered a concussion the year before on the football field and during a scrimmage at the beginning of his junior year he went down again losing his life. Attached is the article in the paper published last week in memory of Stephen Rory Baker.
Just a reminder the Sanger Museum is still closed due to COVID. When it is to be opened again a notice will be posted.
It is that time of year that we are asking for our members of the Sanger Area Historical Society to submit their membership forms and $10 to maintain their membership. We are always seeking new members for our organization, and if you are interested, you may send your $10 check to: SAHS, PO Box 245, Sanger 76266. We typically have a couple of public/membership meetings each year although COVID has restricted that for 2020. Our museum, which is typically open on Saturdays..., has been closed since 2nd week of March when we realized shutting down was best for our volunteers and those that may want to visit the museum. We were hoping to be open again by now but because the numbers are continuing to escalate, we will not open until there is a big swing in those numbers. We will post our reopening on FB when it happens. Thanks for your consideration to becoming a member of the organization. We hold the history of Sanger and we endeavor to continue to gather and maintain historical information. See more
