Went to Courtesy Diner tonight for the first time in a long time due to the pandemic. The boys, Sadie, and I made a quiet entrance, found our booth, Sadie quick...ly went to her place under the table, and we ordered our regulars. Shortly after we got our food, Luke whispered "that old guy at the counter is talking to the waitress and pointing at us." The same kind old man came to our table and asked me what kind of service animal we had. I said she was trained to help a child with autism. With a tear in his eye, he said he had a working dog once himself for 10 years. He was a retired county K9 cop. He told us some fun stories, and talked with the boys for a while. We told him how magical Sadie is and how much she has changed our lives. He pulled out his badge he still carried in his pocket and showed it too the boys. Then he thanked us for the conversation, told us to keep up the good work, and was on his way. As we gathered our things to leave, I couldn't find the check under the mess on the table so I went to the counter to ask for it. The waitress informed me that "the old man who was talking to you took care if it, tip and all." Not gonna lie, I shed a few tears. Random acts of kindness still exist! Don't loose faith in humanity! We located Tim via a neighbor who planned to use On Command K9 to train their daughter's service pup. While I had already laid a solid foundation for River (at... the time about a 3mo Vizsla pup) I needed help dialing in some basics as well as support to reassure me that I was setting us both up for success. During our first meeting, Tim sat with me for about an hour and went over his approach and his 5 requirements for becoming a successful pack leader with a confident pup. Not only did Tim teach me how to better lead and communicate with River, he went above and beyond assisting me with fitting and understanding special correction collars which (with the exception of off leash play time / running) we've graduated off of!! River is now 7 months old and will sit, wait, lie down, off lead heel, loose lead walk, spin in circles, sit up, come to "center" and she understands her "place" command. She she's also received her AKC Novice and Intermediate Trick dog titles (this isn't what Tim trained us for but through his guidance I learned a LOT about how to teach her all sorts of things)!!! If you're looking for someone to train not only your pet but your family (you MUST understand how to lead and communicate with your dog)), I recommend reaching out to Tim and the folks at On Command K9.

We had an exciting morning as service dog Jake completed his Public Access Test with his new human companion, Zane! Jake was awarded to Zane and his family last... year through our Miracle Service Dog Program. Jake has gone through months of training to be able to assist Zane with a variety of mobility needs. We are so happy for Zane, Jake, and the rest of their family on this wonderful new journey together. The Service Dog Public Access Test is to ensure that dogs certified as Service Dogs are well-behaved and able to perform their trained behaviors in a public setting. The test is also used to demonstrate that the handler has control over the dog and that the dog responds appropriately to insure there is no threat to the public from the dog. A special thank you to our national Children's Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising partner Henkle's Ace Hardware for hosting Jake’s test and On Command K-9 Academy for providing the test. Daycare and Over-Night Boarding Services has now been suspended until further notice at On Command K-9 Academy effective Tuesday March 24, 2025 in response to slow the spread of the Coronavirus from person to person. One on One Family Pet Dog and Service Dog Training Services will continue to be open.

Group Class: 2020-B week 3 training. Due to the recent shut down of group classes because of COVID-19, we have had several request for videos so that our group obedience classes could continue working with there dogs until we can meet again. Service Dogs Making a Difference. I do want to make one correction about belle’s training time. It was reported that her training only took 5 weeks by the news anchor, it actually took 3... months to teach belle the service dog tasks, that were directly related to Brocks individual need. Once Belle’s training was completed, Belle and Brock then started training as a team. That training took an additional 4 months. Total Training time for this service dog team: 7 Months from start to finish. Great Job Brock on your interview and what you are doing to help other people who could benefit from a service dog.
