LowCountry Acres

Jack Creek Farm sent two Brabant mares, Ellie and Peaches, over to LCA for training. Ellie, who is coming two years old, was imported in 2019 and Peaches is coming three. They’ve had three weeks of in-hand work, desensitization and voice command training. Now they’re beginning the ground driving phase and this was their first time in harness and on the bit. The in-hand work and voice command training has prepared them to be attentive, supple and light in the mouth.

Today was Earl’s first day dragging the sled. I drug the sled unattached with a rope beside him while leading him so he could hear it and see it, then attached the sled and led him in-hand again so he could gain confidence with it clanking behind him. Finally, I line drove him with the sled and he did great!

Andy and I bid farewell to LowCountry Acres Floyd today. He left for his new home with Jennifer and Sam Schmitt. I'm going to miss him a lot, but he's got a great life ahead of him! Best of luck little buddy.
