On 2 November 2003, the Howard Government announced that it proposes to amend the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) to permit discrimination on the ground of 'drug addiction'.
In the Clinic's view, such an amendment is unwarranted and unnecessary, contrary to international human rights law, likely to exacerbate drug use, likely to be detrimental to the families of drug users, and likely to have a negative educational effect. All of this will result in a weakened community.
