Stronger Community Organisations Project (SCOP)

The Victorian government, via SCOP, has been considering strategies for supporting and sustaining the community sector. PILCH commends the Victorian government on this work as the well-being of the not-for-profit sector, its good governance and its effectiveness are critical to the Victorian community as a whole.

For more information about the aims and objectives of SCOP and the members of the SCOP Steering Committee, see the information page and Discussion Paper on the Department for Victorian Communities website (note: this Department is in the process of being renamed and reallocated).

SCOP is due to report to Minister Peter Bachelor in October 2007.

PILCH's work on this issue

PILCH attended a not-for-profit focus group held by SCOP (26 June 2024) and made a written submission (20 July 2024). In particular, the PILCH submission outlines our proposed new NFP legal service as being an efficient mechanism for government, in partnership with the philanthropic, not-for-profit and business sectors, to promote and support the highest possible standards of governance by community organisations.

SCOP is also linked to the review by the State Services Authority of the regulatory framework for not-for-profit organisations (ie, one of the specific elements highlighted by SCOP as important for the sector's sustainability). PILCH has also made a submission to the SSA Review.

We will continue to monitor these reviews and to let our members, supporters and those NFPs on our database know about any proposed recommendations.

Any queries about these submissions, or to be added to our database (for further updates), please contact Sue Woodward, Policy Officer, PILCH.
