Women and the Right to Adequate Housing

In October 2002, the Clinic made a submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing in relation to "Women and Adequate Housing in Australia".

The submission will be considered by the Special Rapporteur for the purpose of his report to the United Nations Human Rights Commission regarding women's access to adequate housing in 2003.

The submission was coordinated by Associate Professor Dianne Otto of the Faculty of Law at the University of Melbourne and the Homeless Persons' Legal Clinic.

The Clinic hopes that the submission will contribute to debate regarding the need to incorporate a right to adequate housing in Australian law.  It is also hoped that the submission will raise awareness of the particular vulnerability of specific groups of women to homelessness.
