GOOD CRAB NEWS Finally loaded up for the first trip to Newport of the 2020? Season. Thanks to one of our good friends being able to haul enough pots for us before they got blown in last night, we will see our first crab tomorrow. We hope to have crab in the cooker around 1 or 2pm. Not sure of the price yet. As I expected the strike was pointless and demand for these first crab is crazy!

CRAB UPDATE FRIDAY WELL it appears the fleet has settled and now the free market will take it's course as it should have nearly a month ago. Last year the price went up each trip I made to Newport for two weeks. With a base price less than last year's start, and no lock to the price, the fishermen will be heading out soon. Hopefully there's plenty of crab out there, if not this whole delay will certainly have been pointless, and the price will be $3.50 plus in no time, as the live market is as strong as it has ever been. We'll keep you updated as to when we hope to fire up our cooker. Weather permitting mid week we hope! Wishing the best and safe travels to the fleet. I spent eight winters in the Bering Sea, and these guys have it tougher than I know.
