Welcome baby Rory! Your parents worked as an amazing, powerful team together bringing you into the world and your mama left everyone in awe with how peacefully she brought you here

So what does physiological birth mean? Simply put, it means the normal way the body works. Birth is a normal body function that is best and safest when left to its own devices. Birth comes with many variations, but the overall full package of normal birth includes: Spontaneous start to labor: that is, not being induced unless medically necessary. ... A private setting that feels safe to YOU: this can mean not only at home or in the hospital, but in the woods if you so choose. A supportive team: Made up of care providers who you are comfortable with and who know and trust birth, family members, and friends. Delayed cord clamping: This helps make sure baby has as much blood possible returned to their body after being born. Spontaneous placenta delivery: This allows the placenta to leave the body along its own natural attachment points, resulting in less trauma. Immediate, extended skin-to-skin contact between mom and baby: you deserve to keep your prize! Early start to breastfeeding: that is, following baby’s signs for readiness to take the next step. Some babies are born wanting to nurse, others like to hang out and take in the new world a bit.

A hospital L&D nurse turned home birth advocate . . . TRIGGER warning: some of things said in this podcast are very overt descriptions of obstetric abuse and racism... . . . After getting through the graphic descriptions of her experiences, I am so glad she talked about home birth midwifery as concierge care. See more
