We’re closing out 2020 with the launch of the fourth #BCFerries LNG-fuelled Salish Class vessel at Remontowa Following sea trials, the ferry will make its way to BC, entering the fleet in 2022 with service to the Southern Gulf Islands. The Salish Class is built as dual-fuel, primarily using liquefied natural gas which results in reduced emissions and costs. When the ship enters service, it will allow for the retirement of the Mayne Queen which runs on diesel.... On November 7th, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced new COVID-19 restrictions for Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health regions. Launch day is one of the best parts of the ship building process Yesterday, our 3rd battery hybrid-electric Island Class ferry launched at Damen Shipyard - another milestone in our Clean Futures Plan. #BCFerries has joined The Whale Trail - a series of spots on the shore that can be used to view marine mammals on the Pacific Coast! In partnership with Ocean Wise Marine Mammal Research Program, BC Cetacean Sightings Network and funding support from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, interpretive signs were installed at three BC Ferries terminals where whales may be seen: Tsawwassen, Little River in Comox and Langdale terminal on the Sunshine Coast. The Whale Trail is a non-profit... organization based in Seattle, Washington, with a mission to inspire appreciation and stewardship of orcas, other marine mammals and the marine environment. Last week at #Tsawwassen, #BCFerries staff spotted a seal in distress. Marine Mammal Rescue Centre were immediately called to rescue the seal & they discovered she was suffering from an eye injury & maternal separation. Chantel is now feeding on zoological milk formula & will enter fish school to learn how to eat on her own Kudos to all involved in rescuing Chantel!

The Island Aurora officially enters service today on the Port McNeill - Alert Bay - Sointula route. The ship is the second of a series of ships designed with hybrid-technology to enter the fleet. The Island Class vessels are fitted with hybrid technology that bridges the gap until shore charging infrastructure and funding become available. Booking in advance is strongly recommended as passenger capacity remains limited to 50% per Transport Canada safety regulations.
